Rincon Community Park Master Plan

The Rincon Luiseno Band of Indians is a Native American community north of Valley Center. KTU+A was responsible for the coordination of a team of architects and engineers, facilitation of public input and community meetings, development of the park program, design alternatives, master plan and the construction documents. The site was designed and changed three times until its final location. Three-dimensional Sketch-Up models of the concept alternatives were developed for use during the community workshops and presentations.

The site planning and landscape concept takes into consideration and respects the cultural resources of the Luiseño Band. KTU+A conducted research into the traditions, mythology and ethnobotany of the Band to incorporate into the plan. The park program includes:

  • 20,000 s.f. gymnasium with lobby, offices, restrooms, weight room, locker room, outdoor plaza, teen center, two concession buildings, and parking for over 200 cars. The facility will be integrated with the existing Rincon Tribal Hall.
  • Aquatic facility with a 4,000 s.f. pool with a water slide, 250 s.f. hydrotherapy spa and two zero grade water play areas.
  • Two NCAA sized softball fields for community team sports.
  • Tot lot for varied age groups.
  • Outdoor basketball court.
  • Preservation of cultural ramada area and several 100-year old California Oak trees.
  • Picnic areas with furnishings, barbeques, and shade shelters.
  • Loop trail system that links to greenbelt system for pedestrians, bicycles and vehicular maintenance access.
